It is likely easiest to skin your site by altering Socialtext's default CSS a page/section at a time as opposed to building a custom CSS file from scratch. Working with the existing file enables you to alter one area but still have access to the rest of the workspace. That should help with testing flow and links.

Firefox

In Firefox, you can click to view a page, then click on File->Save Page As... in the menu bar. Choose to save the page as "Web Page, complete". This will store the HTML file and a directory containing all of the external resources required to render it. Inside the directory you will find the file screen.css. This is the file you want to edit and eventually replace.

Internet Explorer

In Internet Explorer, you can click to view a page, then click on File->Save As in the menu bar. Choose to save the page as "Web Page, complete". This will store the HTML file and a directory containing all of the external resources required to render it. Inside the directory you will find the file screen.css. This is the file you want to edit and eventually replace.

Alternatively, you can download the Skin Customization Kit as a baseline for creating your new CSS and images.
